Dixon Sookraj is an associate professor at the School of Social Work, University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus. He teaches in areas including research, ethics, and social welfare policy.
In his earlier capacities as President of the Canadian Association for Social Work Education and representative on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), he contributed to the development of several documents: Global Agenda of Social Work and Social Development (2012), Global Definition of Social Work (2014), and Social Work Ethical Principles Statement (2018).
He now serves as co-chair of an international task force, which has recently completed updating the Global Standards for Social Work Education and Training (2020), following extensive global consultations. Central to this work is promoting human rights and social justice along with creating fair, equitable, and inclusive educational programs.
